A curated collection of free and low-cost resources I personally use and recommend for learning, productivity, and building projects.
Free Creative Software you can use on your desktop or laptop (Blender & DaVinci Resolve)
Before anything, make sure your laptop meets the minimum or recommended specs:
- Blender: At least 8GB RAM, modern CPU (quad-core+), GPU with OpenGL 4.5 support.
- DaVinci Resolve: At least 16GB RAM recommended, discrete GPU with 4GB+ VRAM for smooth playback.
Tip: Both programs will run on less powerful laptops, but rendering and previews will be slower.
Blender has THREE render engines, but major of users focus on two, which are Eevee and Cycles, which I will be focusing on today
Here’s a list of what you can do in Blender:
- 3D Modelling
- Sculpting
- Animation
- Texturing & Materials
- Lighting & Rendering
- Visual Effects (VFX)
- Physics Simulation (cloth, fluid, rigid body, smoke, soft body)
- Video Editing
- Game Asset Creation
- 3D Printing
- Motion Graphics
In this blog, I’ll focus on the key areas of Blender I use most in my projects. Here’s what I’ll be working on and sharing tips for, which I have highlighted in bold.
